Principal Level Designer

My first major client project, where I was tasked with the level design of a virtual casino that was to be set in a sci-fi setting. A new kind of challenge also arose where we had a client with a particular set of ideas which I had to coax out with the correct questioning.

The Process

Initially we were given a description by the client, for a virtual casino that layers can come and enjoy playing various casino games. They wanted 3 floors with each floor having a unique theme. They all needed to be connected and the players should be able to visit each floor at any given time. 

The game was to be set in a sci-fi setting were the casino building was the most iconic building in the city.

Taking this into consideration I designed a tower structure where the main casino floors was to be the Top Floor, The Ground Floor and the Underwater Floor. The city environment of our level was to be based near the ocean, a coastal city. 

 

The Top Floor would be akin to an observatory layout with windows giving a 360 degree view to the outside city.

The ground floor a lavish enclosed space made with traditional casino design philosophies such as having no windows to distort the player's sense of time spent in the casino.

The Underwater floor was a flowing basement structure built underneath the coast city into the ocean itself, allowing the players to look at the various creatures that swim below the water while they play.

All the floors were connected via a main elevator spanning the height of the structure's center.
